Bouke Groen is sinds 2008 werkzaam als beeldend kunstenaar. Sindsdien heeft hij onder andere geëxposeerd bij Soundlands, Wales (UK), Survival17 te Wroclaw (Polen), IJsselbiënnale, het Nederlands Film Festival te Utrecht, GEM Den Haag, Oerol Terschelling, Symposion Gorinchem en het Fries Museum.

 
Artist statement
In mijn werk onderzoek en bevraag ik onderliggende mechanismen die we toepassen in onze omgang met elkaar en onze leefomgeving. De focus ligt specifiek op de onderstroom van filtermechanismen, onderliggende afspraken, drijfveren en aannames. Datgene wat ten grondslag ligt aan hoe we relaties leggen tussen onszelf en wat zich om ons heen bevindt, op zowel persoonlijk als maatschappelijk vlak. Mijn werk neemt daarbij geen standpunt in en doet geen kritische uitspraken over hoe wij omgaan met elkaar of de wereld. Ik vind het belangrijk dat mijn werk zonder vooringenomenheid of pretentie een verhouding aangaat met de kijker. Door de kijker te betrekken in mijn onderzoek tracht ik de kijker zijn eigen (onbewuste) connectie met zijn omgeving en andere mensen laten ervaren.

Artist statement
In his work Bouke Groen researches and questions underlying mechanisms that we apply in our interactions with each other and our environment. The focus lies on the undercurrent of filter mechanisms, underlying agreements, motives and assumptions – that what has a profound effect on our relationships between ourselves and what surrounds us, both personally and socially. However, Groen and his work does not take a stance in debates or makes critical statements, but rather reflects on how we treat each other and the world. This is important for his work to establish a relationship with the public without prejudice or pretension. As a result it involves the public in his research, and discovers and experiences their own (unconscious) connection with their environment and each other.
